Obama and his strongest supporters, including the other Democrats who voted for this legislation basically paint it as part of a strategic move so as to not look weak on terrorism. So in order to appear strong they bowed to Republican pressure. And as Glen Greenwald writes, "nothing exudes strength like bowing."<br/><br/>With all this centrist strategy taking place what do we see? McCain has closed the gap in the latest polls to as close as 3 points. Gone is the 15 point lead Obama enjoyed not long ago. Coincidence? Who knows? Cheers John.
